Hi Walt,

Yes, still at it.
Our national impeachment alliance is trying to figure out where to go from here.

We will be concentrating all our efforts on getting House Judiciary Chairman John Conyers to honor his promise to impeachment activists to start impeachment hearings after the election.  Probably Pelosi will try to limit the length of the lame duck session which I believe starts next week.  Whether she permits the introduction of impeachment is another question.  But, congressmen can rise to introduce a resolution as a "privilige" anytime, as Kucinich has done repeatedly.  If both Kucinich and Wexler file separate resolutions it could get the attention of the national media.

Interestingly Pelosi is reported to being reorganizing the deck chairs in the House Leadership and filling some chairs with more progressive congressmen.  Not sure if that means she might be more receptive to impeachment.

Either way it won't get done at all unless enough progressive activists make enough noise.  Even if Pelosi leans our way she still needs us
"to appear to be making her do it".

We are waiting to get a final word on whether Kucinich and Wexler will renew their call for impeachment hearings next week.  Wexler has indicated he will continue pushing for impeachment, but is vague on the details.  If either or both call for hearings soon we might get it done now that Obama has been elected and the Dems have expanded their majorities.  It could get interesting.

Also some of the Republicans who got booted out of office because of the Bush/Cheney arrogance and overreaching just might be angry enough, care enough about redeeming theri party,  and patriotic enough to join in and support hearings.  Some will do it just to put the Dems on the spot (as they did with Kucinich's first impeachment resolution).

Please drop the Saturday Impeachment Protests from your calendar

We don't think we have much time to get hearings going before the end of this House session so we decided to stop them in Denver for now and concentrate on a really heavy on-line effort, contacting all of the congressmen. and pushing hard to get the public to join in.  We will try to do some impeachment protesting but we expect it will get done when we have time left over from the other aspects of this effort.

Are far as the momentum being shot... I think that some in the impeachment effort are discouraged but I think we can rally them for one last effort.  The traffic on our impeach organizer discussion group was down for a week but is rapidly picking up.  We all are going through a downtime after the election, even me.  I was feeling totally exhausted but I'm getting the energy back and am now ramping up for whatever we must do.

After the 2006 election I could hardly bring myself to go out in the street for a couple of months.  I also then was wondering if we in the anti-war movement were going the right direction as I thought we were foolishly trusting the Democrats too much to stop the war and impeach (sadly I was right on both).  I pondered on the status of impeachment vs the anti-war movement through November and December in 2006 and finally decided to concentrate on impeachment starting in January 2007.  Wish I had started concentrating on impeachment in 2001.  I'm such a novice at this.

I'm hoping that everyone else will come to the same conclusion that we must get it done now so Obama won't have to deal with it later and so the House Dems won't just sweep the crimes under the rug in 2009.

Please keep the current impeachment info up on your website for a while yet ( the info in the upper right hand corner).  I will keep you informed soon as to what we are doing.  I think the lame duck session opportunity to impeach will come and go very quickly so we must move fast.  I'll send you current information in a day or two to use to update your website.

Thanks for all your wonderful help with impeachment in the past.  I look forward to meeting with you again some Friday at Michaelangelos.  Will call you first.

Wondering if you are still waving impeachment signs.  I know we still can but wondering if the momentum is shot.  How's it going?  Stop down any Friday.

As always, ask everyone to help keep us informed - you are our word of mouth, network

Subject: [DenverCounty] Please call/email/fax House Judiciary Committee B4 Fridays 10am Hearing on Impeachment
From: John Kennedy <protestinthestreet@yahoo.com>
Date: Tue, Jul 22, 2008 9:26 pm
To: Denver County <DenverCounty@groups.progressnowaction.org>

Hello everyone,

To all Colorado Voters who care about our Constitution and obtaining accountability
for Bush and Cheney

in the matter of the WMD Lies that have gotten 4,124 US Soldiers killed and over 30,000 maimed.

Impeachment advocates from all over the Nation have been working long and hard together to persuade House Speaker Pelosi and House Judiciary Chairman Conyers to hold Full Impeachment Hearings.

We have been able to move them to hold a preliminary impeachment related hearing, to discuss Rep. Kucinich's Impeachment Resolutions, on Friday July 25th at 10:00 am in the House Judiciary Committee.

The hearing title is "Executive Power and It's Constitutional Liminations".  It is a great opportunity for Rep. Kucinich and Rep. Wexler And You, And All Of US to make average Americans aware of the need for Impeachment Hearings.

PLEASE CALL as many of the members of the House Judiciary Committee and demand that full Impeachment Hearings be started BEFORE the Election.

We have the power of the vote to use to pressure the House Democrats to impeach, if we can get it done before the election.  After the election we lose that power for another four years.  No accountability of any kind will happen if we cannot force them
to do it before this election.

We have included quite a bit of contact information for the entire Judiciary Committee.  We know that all of you are as busy as we are and simply may not have the time to contact all of them,
So we have some suggestions:

If you are short on time you can just use the link below to send one email to all of the Judiciary Committee members at one time.

http://judiciary.house.gov/about/contact.html

Please also try to call Pelosi and Conyers separately to demand that  impeachment hearings get started before the election.
House Judiciary Chairman John Conyers, Jr.:   (202) 225-5126
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi:   (202) 225-4965

You might request that even though members of Congress usually have Friday off, we  want those judiciary committee members to wait to fly home until they hear the great line-up of pro-impeachment witnesses at the hearing (not only members of
Congress, but very respected impeachment experts
from outside of Congress as well!).

If you have time Call your Congressman:
Call Toll Free  800-828-0498  & ask for your Rep.
Ask them to lobby the Judiciary Committee members in your behalf and urge impeachment hearings.

Complete contact info for your congressman is at

http://ImpeachCO.com/us-officials.com

This is a major national week of action in Washington DC where many of our fellow impeachment advocates will be lobbying Judiciary Committee members and will also attend the two hour hearing.  The event is to be televised but we
do know the url yet.

 http://judiciary.house.gov/hearings/calendar.html

On Friday at 9:00 am, preceeding the hearing, there will be a "Choose the Constitution" Press Conference & Rally in front of the Rayburn Building on Independence Avenue.

At 10 am the hearing will begin in the
House Judiciary Committee, Rayburn Bldg, Rm. 2141 and continue for two hours.

Please consider writing a letter to the local and national media and ask for
coverage of this event.

For those willing to do more and contact more members of Congress:

Please: at least try to call all the Democrats.
They control the Judiciary Committee and can cause impeachment Hearings to happen,
if you push them hard enough
.

To: Walt Geisel <walt@civicsatisfaction.org>
Hi Walt,

The following is a call by David Swanson, the creator of AfterDowninStreet.org for members of the Peace Movement
to actively support holding Impeachment Hearings
prior to the election.

I was thinking that you might consider placing it at the top of your impeachment page  http://www.civicsatisfaction.org/08impeach.htm

Given his stature in the Peace Movement it might have a good effect.

Thanks for everything you do, Walt.

John Kennedy

Impeach Colorado Coalition

--------------------------------------------------------------------

From David Swanson:

The peace movement has stood for peace and justice, for ending wars, preventing new ones, and building peace. Our top priority in Washington, D.C., has been ending the funding of the occupation. That work is over for the next year, because Congress has provided that funding.

We can still work against recruitment, we can still educate, we can still agitate, we can still oppose an attack on Iran. But one of our secondary priorities in Washington has been imposing a penalty for the illegal attack on Iraq in order to discourage future attacks on Iran or anywhere else.

We have pushed half-heartedly for impeachment,
with our main lobbying focus on cutting off the money.

Now, at the same time that the money is
a done deal for another year,

the possibility of impeachment is beginning to spark.
After over two years of declaring impeachment "off the table," House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has relented and suggested that some sort of preliminary hearing be held in the Judiciary Committee - and specifically on the impeachable offense of misleading a nation into war.

If the peace movement is not just a movement against one war or occupation, but a movement for peace, we should push with everything we've got for that (impeachment) hearing to happen, happen soon, and happen well.

We should ask everyone who cares about peace to phone Pelosi and Committee Chairman John Conyers, as well as their own representatives, whom they should ask to introduce their own articles of impeachment.

We've been on a losing streak, brothers and sisters, and the door is cracking open toward a major victory. Let's open that door fully and lead a peaceful march of millions through it.

PLEASE CALL and demand that Impeachment Hearings be started
BEFORE the Election

House Judiciary Chairman John Conyers, Jr.:   (202) 225-5126

On Monday night, June 9, 2008, Representative Dennis Kucinich, at the podium of the House of Representatives, read into the Congressional Record 35 Articles of Impeachment of President George W. Bush.  (see below for the list of Kucinich's 35 Articles of Impeachment)

Kucinich requested a recorded vote on the motion around 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 11, and 24 Republicans joined nearly all Democrats in voting 251-166 to send the impeachment measure to the House Judiciary Committee, chaired by Rep. John Conyers (D-MI).  Kucinich said on Wednesday that he would meet with Conyers this week.

Conyers has yet to release a public statement on the motion, but has in the past not been supportive of impeachment efforts. The resolution to impeach Cheney, which Kucinich presented in April 2007, remains stalled in the committee Conyers chairs.
