Dear ,
Boulder County Oil and Gas Moratorium
It’s not dead yet and it may not be!
We need your help to send a quick email of support to the Boulder County Commissioners.
----------------------------------------------------------
Those who have been following the Boulder County Commissioners meetings know that the moratorium on new oil and gas permits has been in place since February 2012.
It almost expired on June 10 and was renewed until June 24. Commissioner Elise Jones moved, but received no second, to substantially increase the moratorium until health impacts were determined. Instead the commissioners were considering a slow phase-in of new wells.
The dynamic has changed.
The Boulder County Commissioners will be reassessing the possibility of extending the moratorium at their meeting on Tuesday, June 18, at 4:30 PM. There is reason to hope that we may still secure a moratorium for health impact studies.
No public comments will be taken at the June 18 meeting, but the commissioners are encouraging emails.
Get out your keyboard!
It’s highly doubtful that there will be another opportunity to get what we’ve all been waiting and hoping for. Remember, all of us who worked so hard to pass the ban in Longmont don’t live on an island. We are part of Boulder County. And toxic air knows no boundaries.
BE RESPECTFUL!
Our commissioners are good people who genuinely do care about the health and wellbeing of our county community. By holding this meeting, they have indicated that they are willing to reconsider the position they took on May 16.
Tell them of your concerns and/or experiences with health impacts. Remind them of the commitment you made in Longmont to actually ban hydraulic fracking. Urge them to go the extra mile in protecting all of us in Boulder County. And be sure to send your email BEFORE Tuesday, June 18.
Remember what your mama used to say:
“You can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar.”
