OUR ADVICE FOR THE UPCOMING ELECTIONS . . . FOLLOW THE MONEY!

Colorado Move to Amend wants to give a big shout out to Jon Biggerstaff, the Executive Director of CleanSlateNow.org.

Jon has written two excellent articles which explain where the money is coming from behind two of the biggest ballot initiatives being put before Colorado voters this year: Amendment 71, the so-called “Raise the Bar” Amendment, which would amend Colorado’s constitution in order to make it more difficult to amend; and Amendment 69, which would establish Colorado Care, a statewide system to provide healthcare for all Colorado residents.

In the first article Following the Money: Amendment 71, Biggerstaff reveals that 92% of the $28 million dollars money raised by the committee supporting - “Protecting Colorado’s Environment, Economy, and Energy Independence”- has come from big money donors in the fossil fuel extraction industry, like Anadarko Petroleum ($10,665,235.00) and Nobel Energy ($9,115,235.00).

In the second article, Following the Money Part 2: Colorado Care (Amendment 69), Biggerstaff reports that “Colorado Care Yes” has raised around $782,000 to support this ballot measure, with 92% of that amount coming from individuals; while “Coloradans for Coloradans” has raised just over $4,000,000 to defeat it, with a stunning 98.13% of that amount coming from corporations, PACs, and various other interest groups. Coloradans for Coloradans top donors include: Anthem, Inc. ($1,000,000.00); KP Financial SVCS OPS ($500,000.00); and, United Healthcare Services, Inc. ($450,000.00).

Ballotpedia is another great website for discovering where the money both for, and against, political candidates and ballot questions, is coming from.

It is not our place, here at Colorado Move to Amend, to tell you how to vote on any of the candidates, or ballot questions, that will be put before us this year. Instead, before you vote, we urge you to follow Jon Biggerstaff’s advice and “FOLLOW THE MONEY! “
