“I want to teach my students more about immigration, but I need up-to-date materials that are ready for me to use.â€

“I try to advocate for immigrant students and families in my school, but I feel so isolated.  There must be other educators who feel the same way I do…â€

“I want to understand more about what’s going with the immigration debate these days.  So many conflicting viewpoints…So much controversy….How do I decide what to say or do—or not?â€

Could any of these educators be you?

You are invited to meet, talk and collaborate with educators from all grade levels, subjects, schools and districts, public, charter, independent, post-secondary.

Save the DATE for the NEXT Educators for Immigrant Rights Happy Hour- 11/20!

In lieu of a happy hour in the month of October…

We’d like to invite you to join us at Regis University this Wednesday to meet the author of Lies My Teacher Told Me: Everything Your High School History Text Book Got Wrong, Dr. James Loewen

Dr. James Loewen will be at speak at in the Regis University Student Center Cafeteria, located at 3333 Regis Blvd. in Denver, just off 50th & Lowell on Wednesday, October 21st 2009, 8:00 pm!

James Loewen is a sociologist who spent two years at the Smithsonian surveying twelve leading high school textbooks of American history only to conclude that they were an embarrassing blend of bland optimism, blind nationalism, and plain misinformation. The bestselling author of Lies My Teacher Told Me: Everything Your High School History Textbook Got Wrong has been an expert witness in more than 50 civil rights, voting rights, and employment cases. Loewen holds a Ph.D. in sociology from Harvard University and taught race relations for twenty years at the University of Vermont.
This lecture is sponsored by Student Activities, the Sociology Department, Women’s Studies, the Ignatian Collaborative for Service & Justice, and the Academic Internship Program.
This event is free and open to the public.

For more information please contact Alana McCoy at 303.458.3550 or amccoy@regis.edu
