Listening With Compassion

The War In Gaza:

Palestinian and Jewish Voices Share Their Grief

With

Rabbi Tirzah Firestone    Clemence Lubar    Rima Barakat Sinclair

At First Plymouth Congregational Church

Hampden and Colorado Boulevard

Sunday, March 1, 2009 – From 4 to 6 PM

This event is free and open to the public.  All are welcome! Reservations Requested at info@firstplymouthchurch.org or 303-762-0616

We welcome all to this special interfaith gathering in the spirit of the peace.  We appreciate the cooperation of Friends of SABEEL - Colorado.

The mission of the Abrahamic Initiative is to provide a forum for dialogue among

Jews, Christians and Muslims, and to foster mutual understanding and appreciation

for the faith perspectives of the three traditions.

We seek to foster dialogue and understanding between Jews, Christians and Muslims so as to build up and strengthen the bonds of affection between these communities in our society, a necessary element to fostering a strong, civil society.  We do not seek to convert or achieve mastery in debate, but rather, we seek through dialogue to foster empathy and deeper understanding of each other that enriches our lives, deepens our own faith, and encourages cooperation and collaboration in matters of mutual interest. We welcome a diversity of opinions to our table and thus we do not endorse any particular position so as to offer a safe and sacred place to every participant.

Anna Baltzer, a Fulbright scholar and author of the book Witness in Palestine, has worked in the West Bank with the "International Women's Peace Service." Hi Walt. I don't believe there will be a 1st Sunday event for June. Planning for the events has been put on hold due to the Sabeel trip to Palestine and subsequent planning for the June 10 occupation anniversary events around Denver and Boulder. 1st Sunday events will likely resume in the fall.

Resisting the Occupation, Constructing Peace:
Rebuilding Palestinian Homes

Sunday, March 4, 2007, 3:00 pm
Conference Center, Regis University, Denver
3333 Regis Blvd, Entrance 1, Parking Lot 5
Free and Open to the Public

Video: "Resisting the Occupation on the Ground." Learn about the work of the Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions, a nonviolent, direct action organization established to resist the Israeli policy of demolishing Palestinian homes in the Occupied Territories. More than 12,000 homes have been destroyed since 1967. The video depicts with graphic reality ICAHD’s work of blocking demolition and rebuilding homes which is directed by Dr. Jeff Halper. Rob Prince & Paula VanDusen will introduce the video and lead discussion. Rob is a Senior Lecturer at the Graduate School of International Studies at the University of Denver. He publishes the Colorado Progressive Jewish News. Paula is a Quaker, a long-time activist for social justice, and active in the Democratic Party.

Upcoming Sunday Events:
Sunday, April 1. "The Iron Wall." This video discusses the more than 200 Jewish settlements and outposts that are scattered throughout  the West Bank, blocking the possibility of a contiguous Palestinian territory. The settlements destroy the possibility of "land for peace" and create a land with no peace. The film will be introduced by Jean-Jacques Joris, who served as the Swiss diplomat to the Palestinian Authority and lived in Ramallah.
Sunday, May 6. "Viva Peace in the Holy Land." Presentation by Tamer El-Naklal, a Palestinian High School exchange student from Gaza. Tamer will show slides and discuss his life in Gaza and the difficulties of living under Israeli occupation.
