December 6th Boulder Says No More Funding for DAPL!
Join us on the 6th and being a part of our local #DefundDAPL #BankExit campaign by RSVPing here. Sadly, the City of Boulder and Boulder County are currently engaged in primary banking with one of the top banks financing Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL). Unfortunately, this means that our local tax dollars are supporting environmental devastation and massive human rights violations being perpetrated against Standing Rock Sioux Tribe and the peaceful protectors gathered to defend their sacred lands and water. The people of Boulder are uniting on Tuesday, December 6th to say, "ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! DIVEST OUR CITY AND COUNTY FUNDS NOW FROM ALL BANKS FINANCING THE DAPL!"
Dec. 6th ACTION SCHEDULE 11 am - Public comment to the Boulder County Commission (tentative + to be confirmed) 12 noon to 1 pm - Rally and march for Standing Rock 1 pm to 2:30 - Meeting at location TBA to plan next action steps *** BREAK *** 5:30 pm - Presentation to the Boulder City Council meeting Join us to rally on Pearl St. outside the Boulder County Courthouse. We will hold a press conference at 12 noon publicly revealing the identity of the bank whose accounts with the County must be closed. Then we'll march to City Hall to demand the City's divestment from this bank. Along the march route, we will peacefully and prayerfully protest all banks financing DAPL while asking every person to stand in solidarity with Standing Rock by closing accounts with Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Citibank, Bank of the West and other banks funding DAPL. Bring friends and signs!
After the rally and march, we invite you to stay around for a solidarity meeting to plan next steps in our local #DefundDAPL #BankExit campaign. Stay tuned for details!

Boulder County Commissioners public hearing on phasing out GMO crops and pesticides on county lands from 3 -5 pm or after 5:30 p.m.
Rich Andrews needs people to pool with to allow him to speak longer. Contact Rich@zeoponix.com to see if he stills needs people to pool with. You have to be at the hearing when he speaks. At the Third Floor Hearing Room, Boulder County Courthouse, 1325 Pearl Street, Boulder, CO. Here are some point to make about why and when GMOS should be phased out from County Open Space: We need to convert county open space land to growing sustainable organic food and feed. To avoid glyphosphate which causes cancer, and which is used with GMO sugar beets. To avoid pesticides built into plants such as BT in corn and to avoid other harmful pesticides. To avoid neonicotinoids which harm bees, butterflies, ladybugs, and other beneficial insects. We need to do it soon, not to wait many years. The longer we wait, the more toxins that will be in the soil and leach into the water. Only about 100 acres of GMO sugar beets were planted last year on open space land, so it is not a big deal to phase it out. The commissioners need to ignore the steady drumbeat of letters asking for delays from GMO companies. Monsanto and other GMO companies are just trying to delay and cause doubt, just like the tobacco companies and fracking companies do. They hope to replace Commissioners Jones and Gardner before the phase out happens. They try to change the story away from how GMOs and pesticides give cancer, kill bees and butterflies, and harm local, organic farms.

Monday, Nov. 28 at 7 p.m. TALK BY MEDEA BENJAMIN Kingdom of the Unjust BEHIND THE U.S.-SAUDI CONNECTION At Eaton Humanities Building, CU, Boulder Room 150, 1610 Pleasant Street Boulder, CO. (This talk is free) Monday, Nov. 28 Reception with Medea Benjamin: 4-6 p.m. Cost $25. Appertizers will be served. To save a place send an email to Thomas.Mayer@colorado.edu and you will be sent the address. The co-founder of CODEPINK Medea will be talking about her new book on Saudia Arabia. Medea has become famous for fearlessly tackling head-on subjects most of us studiously avoid. Sometimes, she does so in person-as during President Obama's speech at the National Defense University, or during a reception for drone manufacturers and members of Congress, or in Cairo, where she was assaulted by police. Here, she's researching the sinister nature of the relationship between the U.S. and Saudi Arabia. In seven succinct chapters followed by a meditation on prospects for change, Benjamin-cited by the L.A. Times as "one of the high-profile members of the peace movement"-shines a light on one of the most perplexing elements of American foreign policy. What is the origin of this strange alliance between two countries that seemingly have very little in common? Why does it persist, and what are its consequences? Why, over a period of decades and across various presidential administrations, has the United States consistently supported a regime shown time and again to be one of the most powerful forces working against American interests? Saudi Arabia is perhaps the single most important source of funds for terrorists worldwide, promoting an extreme interpretation of Islam along with anti-Western sentiment, while brutally repressing non-violent dissidents at home. With extremism spreading across the globe, a reduced U.S. need for Saudi oil, and a thawing of U.S. relations with Iran, the time is right for a re-evaluation of our close ties with the Saudi regime.

Tell Congressman Polis NO! on the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) This Thursday, Nov. 10 at noon at his office in Boulder (17th and Walnut). The TPP may be voted on in the lameduck session and may be introduced in Congress as early as Nov. 14.
Please collect letters against the TPP for Rep. Polis from your friends and relatives and bring them with you on Thursday (see talking points below). People can also send their letters to Rep. Polis at jared.polis@mail.house.gov.
Rep. Polis will not be at his office on Thursday, so we will be delivering the letters to his staff. Your presence is important. Food and Water Watch and the Rocky Mountain Peace and Justice Center will be delivering hundreds of handwritten letters from constituents in CD2 to Congressman Jared Polis asking him to oppose and vote against the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP). The groups will also be present a letter opposing the TPP from several state legislators in Congressman Polis' district. Thursday, Nov. 10 at 12 noon Congressman Jared Polis' office, 1644 Walnut (corner of Walnut and 17th Streets), Boulder Reasons that Congressman Polis should oppose the TPP include the following : The TPP Means Expansion of Corporate Power Over Government and Our Lives. The TPP is branded as a "free trade" agreement between twelve nations, but at its heart are new rights and privileges for investors and corporations. The TPP would expand and lock in corporate power. The TPP elevates individual corporations to equal status with nations, empowering them to sue governments at foreign tribunals of three private attorneys to get paid unlimited taxpayer dollars for federal, state or local laws they claim undermine their profits. TPP Means More Fracking and Climate Chaos. The TPP will mandate approval of all liquefied natural gas exports, significantly increasing fracking and carbon pollution while damaging communities and impacting the environment. Government attempts to protect public health, the environment and communities will be subject to corporate suits. TPP Means Job Loss and Lower Wages. The TPP includes rules that make it easier to offshore more American jobs. It would gut Buy America preferences for government contracts, offshoring our tax dollars instead of reinvesting them here at home to create jobs and spur innovation. The TPP would lower our wages by throwing Americans into competition with workers in Vietnam making less than 65 cents an hour. A recent study found TPP would spell pay cuts for all but the richest 10 percent of us. It would reward firms exploiting labor in low-wage TPP countries. TPP Means Floods of Unsafe Imported Food. The TPP threatens our families' health and safety. It would require us to import food that does not meet U.S. standards and would let agribusiness challenge safety inspections. TPP Means Higher Medicine Prices. The TPP would reduce access to life saving medicines in TPP countries and lock in high drug prices by granting pharmaceutical firms new monopoly privileges to block generic competition and raise drug prices. It also would grant firms new rights to challenge governments' cost saving decisions for programs like Medicare and Medicaid,

- Tuesday, August 9 from 6:00 - 7:00 P.M. (MST) at 855-756-7520, access code 32649#,
- Wednesday, August 17, 6:00 - 7:00 P.M. (MST) at 855-756-7520, access code 32678#. Here's are some videos on TPP: Here are some talking points on TPP: The Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) Kills Democracy! The TPP will jeopardize our democracy and undermine the ability of our local, state and federal legislators to act to protect the public interest and health, jobs and the environment. " The TPP involves much more than trade; it is an all-encompassing trade, investment and regulation agreement that carries the potential to change or invalidate a broad range of national, state and local laws, regulations and policies. Foreign investors will be empowered to sue national governments in Investor-State Dispute Settlement (ISDS) tribunals to force modifications of national, state and local laws, regulations and policies or extract unlimited compensation based on investors' expected future profits. The TPP constrains how national, state and local governments spend tax dollars, limiting their ability to protect the public, conserve the environment, and provide necessary public goods and services. The TPP broadens definitions of "investor" and "investment" to cover much more than is allowed under U.S. law, encouraging more ISDS suits against our public interest laws. Thousands of foreign corporations, including a vast number of foreign subsidiaries of U.S. firms based in TPP countries, will be newly empowered under the TPP, increasing the likelihood for more ISDS suits aimed at overturning U.S. laws and regulations. Opportunities to exploit cheap foreign labor will be significantly expanded, inducing capital exports and offshoring American jobs. The Sierra Club opposes the TPP because it would fuel the climate crisis and because environmental regulations in it are weak and unenforceable. In their new study Dirty Deal, the Sierra Club writes: If approved, the pact would increase greenhouse gas emissions and undermine efforts to transition to clean energy. State and local leaders oppose important aspects of TPP and similar agreements. Legal scholars call ISDS tribunals a threat to democracy. Americans overwhelmingly oppose trade deals that export jobs and damage local economies.

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 3 BOULDER Film: "DR.STRANGELOVE" AT THE TRIDENT 7:30 PM, hosted by THE ROCKY MOUNTAIN PEACE AND JUSTICE CENTER Panel discussion at 7:30, followed by the film. As we approach the 71st anniversary of the U.S. bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the world is in greater danger, perhaps than ever, from nuclear holocaust. The "delicate balance of terror" hangs over all of life. According to the Oak Ridge Environmental Peace Alliance, the U.S. government plans to spend four million dollars an hour, every hour for the next thirty years, to build new bomb plants, and upgrade and modify nuclear war heads. As NATO, including the U.S., threatens Russia, tension mounts exponentially and seems insane. The Rocky Mountain Peace and Justice Center and the Trident present "Dr. Strangelove," for a brilliant glimpse of nuclear insanity; laugh at the same time you are trembling. 940 Pearl, Boulder; 7:30 p.m.. | The Rocky Mountain Peace and Justice Center needs your action, your time and your support. LET's STOP A NATO/Russia Confrontation:
Boulder Demonstration on Saturday, July 9
Teach-In on Sunday, July 10
On July 8-9 NATO will be meeting in Warsaw, Poland. One of the goals of the meeting is the further expansion of NATO. As we've mentioned in recent emails, the drive by a nuclear-armed NATO to expand to the borders of Russia - a nuclear-armed state - poses at the very least the risk of accidental nuclear war, and at worst the possibility of military confrontation between two nuclear powers.
The Rocky Mountain Peace and Justice will be active in the future in the efforts to educate the public about this crisis and to stop the drive toward war between these powers.
Here are two upcoming events July 9-10 on this issue:
Saturday, July 9 BOULDER Demonstrate against NATO Expansion and Aggression Against Russia in solidarity with actions around the globe, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the corner of Broadway and Canyon, Boulder.
Sunday, July 10 BOULDER Presentation and discussion, sponsored by Vets for Peace, by Ron Forthofer and members of the RMPJC Middle East Collective on the current crisis between NATO and Russia. Since the United States is a driving force in NATO and since this situation is significantly increasing the risks of nuclear war, this is an important issue for all Americans. 7 pm, with a potluck at 6 pm at First Methodist Church, 1421 Spruce Street, Boulder. Coloradans are inundated by shale gas drilling and fracking and its infrastructure. CELDF's Thomas Linzey is touring Colorado as residents declare "Enough!" These communities are rallying together, taking on the the corporate state and advancing Community Rights to local community self-government - including the right to ban fracking activities. What is so deep within us that no calamity can take it away? Tuesday, June 28 Boulder County Commissioners Public Hearing: 6-Month Moratorium on Oil & Gas Development in Unincorporated Boulder County. Public hearing scheduled to determine if any changes should be made to the county's 6-month moratorium on the processing of new oil and gas permits. In lieu of testimony being taken in person on June 28, testimony will be taken in the form of written comments submitted in advance; the deadline to receive comments is Monday, June 27 by 4 p.m. Resolution 2016-65 ( http://www.bouldercounty.org/doc/landuse/resolution2016-65oilgas20160519.pdf), which imposed the moratorium, established a 45-day deadline to set and notice a public hearing for the purpose of deciding whether the 6-month moratorium should be terminated or otherwise amended. Written testimony will be reviewed by the Board as part of the public hearing on Tuesday, June 28 at 1 p.m.
On May 19, the County Commissioners rescinded the county's previous moratorium, which was set to expire in July 2018, and adopted a new moratorium that expires on November 18, 2016. The new moratorium of shorter duration was established in order to allow time for the formulation and public review of any amendments to current county land use and environmental regulations governing oil and gas regulation in the unincorporated areas of Boulder County. (See May 19 summary.)
There will be additional opportunities for public input later this fall on proposed amendments to the County Land Use Code pertaining to oil and gas activities in unincorporated Boulder County. Written testimony may be submitted by email, mail, or in person to the Commissioners' Office. In order to be considered by the County Commissioners in advance of the June 28 public hearing, the deadline to submit comments is Monday, June 27 by 4 p.m. Email comments to: oilgascomment@bouldercounty.org | __ _________________________________________________________ The Rocky Mountain Peace and Justice Center needs your action, your time and your support. Action Alert: Urgent action is required to prevent the Rocky Mountain Greenway from being built through the Rocky Flats National Wildlife Refuge.
5/3/2016 (Tuesday) 6:00pm - Boulder City Council, Boulder Municipal Building, 900 Canyon Blvd, Boulder, CO 80302 (Public Hearing Item B) Action alert to:
Please make a public comment to the Arvada City Council, Boulder County Commissioners, and Boulder City Council, respectfully asking each board not to build the Rocky Mountain Greenway through Rocky Flats National Wildlife Refuge. Please research facts about the history of Rocky Flats to support a public comment.
Boulder County Commissioners: http://www.bouldercounty.org/contact/pages/bocc.aspx
Boulder City Council: council@bouldercolorado.gov
Our Request: Please do not build the Rocky Mountain Greenway through the Rocky Flats National Wildlife Refuge because it is a risk to public health and safety.
Important points to emphasize:
2. Please vote to prioritize that the Rocky Mountain Greenway not be built through the Rocky Flats National Wildlife Refuge instead of conducting sampling as a measure of whether to allow the trail to go through RFNWR. Background: The City of Boulder and Boulder County are considering a sampling plan. The results of a State/Federal sampling plan may not be sufficient to consider a public trail safe because the State/Federal radiation exposure standards are not sufficiently protective. (See points 1, 2, 3, 4, 9, 10 and 11 from A Dozen Reasons Why the Rocky Flats National Wildlife Refuge Should Remain Closed to the Public http://media.wix.com/ugd/cff93e_5c18ac99ef1145668fd0b04b850132b5.pdf, also for background on radiation exposure standards and the cleanup at Rocky Flats, The Bait and Switch Cleanup http://media.wix.com/ugd/cff93e_7711d2b2a9d84f28ab1986706f1cda75.pdf) 3. State and Federal radiation exposure standards are not sufficiently protective of the most vulnerable, especially children. (The National Academy of Sciences report on Health Risks from Exposure to Low Levels of Ionizing Radiation (2006) affirms that exposure to any level of ionizing radiation is potentially harmful.

Thursday, May 19 BOULDER at 7 p.m. A talk by 86 year old Nakba survivor Mariam Fathalla, at the Boulder Mennonite Church at 3910 Table Mesa Drive, Boulder. From 1947-49, at least 750,000 Palestinian men, women, and children were expelled from their homes by numerically superior Israeli forces - half before any Arab armies joined the war. This massive humanitarian disaster is known as 'The Catastrophe,' al Nakba in Arabic. Israeli forces committed 33 massacres and destroyed 531 Palestinian towns. Author Norman Finkelstein states: "According to the former director of the Israeli army archives, 'in almost every village occupied by us during the War... acts were committed which are defined as war crimes, such as murders, massacres, and rapes'...Uri Milstein, the authoritative Israeli military historian of the 1948 war, goes one step further, maintaining that 'every skirmish ended in a massacre of Arabs." The event will be at the Boulder Mennonite Church, See videos of Mariam Fathhalla here:

Break Free From Fossil Fuels in Colorado. Colorado has a long and checkered history with the fossil fuel industry, as does much of the West. This May, we're breaking free. We're breaking free from an industry that's driving the climate crisis and throwing our seasons out of whack. We're breaking free from an industry that poisons our air and water. We're breaking free from an industry that doesn't respect our right to keep dangerous industrial processes away from homes and schools. We're breaking free - and mobilizing to keep massive amounts of fossil fuels underground. May 12th: BLM #KeepItInTheGround Action, Denver May 14th: Defending the Frontlines from Fracking, Denver Metro Area
Thursday, May 19 BOULDER at 7 p.m. A talk by 86 year old Nakba survivor Mariam Fathalla. Author Norman Finkelstein states: "According to the former director of the Israeli army archives, 'in almost every village occupied by us during the War... acts were committed which are defined as war crimes, such as murders, massacres, and rapes'...Uri Milstein, the authoritative Israeli military historian of the 1948 war, goes one step further, maintaining that 'every skirmish ended in a massacre of Arabs." 25 YEARS SINCE THE START OF DESERT STORM: A TALK BY DAN WINTERS
7 P.M.
AT KGNU STUDIOS, 4700 WALNUT, BOULDER (THIS IS AN IN-PERSON EVENT, NOT AN ON-AIR EVENT).
Dan C. Winters, of Boulder was in Bagdhad, Iraq on January 17, 2003 as a peace activist when aerial bombing of the city began. He stayed there for ten days to protest the war. Dan writes: "That war started us down the road to the present Middle East disaster".
________________________________________
The U.S. has been bombing and waging war against Muslim countries in the Middle East since 1980.
On January 17, 1991, U.S. launched its air campaign of the Gulf War, also known as the 1991 Bombing of Iraq. The extensive aerial bombing campaign included over 100,000 sorties which dropped 88,500 tons of bombs and widely destroyed military and civilian infrastructure.
As a result of the continual assault on the people of Iraq, including years of sanctions and a second massive attack starting on March 20, 2003, Iraq is a destroyed society. Its people are impoverished and suffering. 500,000 Iraqi children died as a result of years of U.S sanctions. Madeleine Allbright, past Secretary of State, said she thought killing all these children with sanctions that denied basic needs was "worth it".
Syria has become at least the 14th country in the Islamic world that U.S. forces have invaded or occupied or bombed, and in which American soldiers have killed or been killed.
These countries are:
Iran (1980, 1987-1988), Libya (1981, 1986, 1989, 2011), Lebanon (1983), Kuwait (1991), Iraq (1991-2011, 2014-), Somalia (1992-1993, 2007-), Bosnia (1995), Saudi Arabia (1991, 1996), Afghanistan (1998, 2001-), Sudan (1998), Kosovo (1999), Yemen (2000, 2002-), Pakistan (2004-) and now Syria.
This excludes the bombing and occupation of still other predominantly Muslim countries by key U.S. allies such as Israel and Saudi Arabia, carried out with crucial American support. It excludes coups against democratically elected governments, torture, and imprisonment of people with no charges. It also, of course, excludes all the other bombing and invading and occupying that the U.S. has carried out during this time period in other parts of the world, including in Central America and the Caribbean, as well as various proxy wars in Africa.

| TAKE ACTION ON WEDNESDAY TO SUPPORT SYRIAN AND IRAQI REFUGEES:
On Wednesday , December 2, support Syrian and Iraqi refugees by holding signs at the corner of Canyon and Broadway, Boulder from 12-12:50 p.m.
Also call Cong. Jared Polis and Senator Bennet and ask them to support the entrance of Syrian refugees into this country.
On Wednesday, the U.S. Senate is scheduled to vote on a bill to effectively close our country to Syrian and Iraqi refugees fleeing for their lives.
The bill already passed the House with enough votes to override President Obama's threatened veto-and Senator Michael Bennet could be among the deciding votes in the Senate.
Tell Senator Bennet: "It's un-American to turn away people seeking refuge from war and oppression. Vote no on the bill that would effectively bar Syrian and Iraqi refugees from resettling in the United States."
CALL: Senator Michael Bennet Phone: (202) 224-5852.
Ask Congressman Polis to Reverse His Position:
Unfortunately Rep. Jared Polis voted to support the barring of refugees in the recent House vote. He needs to change his position.
Call Rep. Polis at (303) 484-9596 or (202) 225-2161 and tell him to support President Obama's veto of the house-passed bill to ban refugees.
